Black Spiderweb Cookies with Black Matcha Blend

Charcoal-black butter cookies with a white icing spiderweb. All the colour comes from Black Matcha Blend (cocoa, activated vegetable charcoal, black tea and cinnamon): no colourings, and a background note of cocoa and cinnamon.
Time: 50 min · Makes: 12 cookies · Difficulty: medium
Ingredients
- 150 g plain flour
- 6 g (3 teaspoons) Black Matcha Blend
- ½ teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt
- 80 g soft butter
- 70 g sugar
- 1 egg
- Icing: 80 g icing sugar + 1–2 teaspoons water
Step by step
- Beat the butter and sugar until creamy, then add the egg.
- Sift in the flour, Black Matcha Blend, baking powder and salt, and mix into an even black dough.
- Shape into a ball, wrap and chill for 20 minutes.
- Roll 12 balls of about 25 g, place on a lined tray and flatten to 1 cm.
- Bake at 175 °C for 11–12 minutes and let them cool completely on the tray.
- Mix the icing sugar with the water into a thick icing, pipe 3 concentric circles with a fine nozzle, then drag a toothpick from the centre outwards to make the web.
Tips
- Don’t leave them in “until golden”: they’re black, you won’t see it. At 12 minutes, take them out.
- If the icing spreads, it’s too runny: add another spoonful of icing sugar.
